Wayan’s Authentic Balinese Cooking Class is one of Ubud’s most beloved and intimate culinary experiences, hosted by the warm and wonderful Wayan family in their traditional family compound in the heart of Ubud. This is not a commercial cooking school — this is an invitation into a Balinese family’s home and kitchen.

The experience begins with a guided walk through Ubud’s morning market, where you’ll learn to identify and select the freshest local ingredients — exotic spices, tropical vegetables, fresh herbs, and locally grown rice. Wayan will share the stories behind each ingredient and explain their role in Balinese cuisine and culture.

Back at the family compound, you’ll cook a complete Balinese feast from scratch — typically 6-8 dishes including Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Mie Goreng (fried noodles), Lawar (spiced coconut salad), Satay Lilit (spiced fish satay), Pelecing Kangkung (water spinach with sambal), and the iconic Balinese black rice pudding with coconut cream for dessert.

The maximum class size is just 8 participants, ensuring everyone gets hands-on time at the stove and personalized guidance from Wayan. After cooking, you’ll sit down together as a family and eat the meal you’ve prepared — accompanied by stories, laughter, and a genuine glimpse into everyday Balinese life.

Every participant receives a printed recipe booklet of all dishes prepared, so you can recreate the magic back home. A certificate of completion is also provided.

Classes run morning and afternoon. Morning classes include the market visit. All dietary requirements including vegetarian and vegan can be accommodated with advance notice.
